Flying from Boston to Palermo

I’m taking the Rick Steves tour of Sicily in November is it possible to fly direct from Boston to Palermo? If not what is the route other travelers have taken?

Nope. No flights from/to North America to PMO at the moment. United used to have one seasonal flight from Newark, NJ (The Mafia Express), but I think it was discontinued during Covid.

The most options would be via Rome FCO with ITA Airways (Delta partner), or via Frankfurt/Munich with Lufthansa (United partner).

All others tend to be seasonal (summer only).

I just started looking at that as well, for travel a year from now. Will probably end up doing Boston/Rome Fiumicino (FCO), then Rome/Catania on ITA. Staying in Taormina, then taking the train--with a stop or two--all the way to Rome.

When I took this tour years ago, I booked a round-trip flight Boston to Rome. I stayed in Rome for three days, then flew Vueling from Rome to Palermo for the tour. Then at the end of the tour, flew Vueling again back to Rome, spent two more days in Rome and flew home to Boston.
