Flying early out of Fiumiccno/Rome (Hotel/taxi question)

My flight leaves at 6:55 from Fiumicino on a late July Saturday morning.

Do I need to be at the airport 2 hours in advance? Or do I need to allow more time?

I booked a hotel three miles from the airport in Fiumicino-- then received taxi reservation offers for $65. Is $65 normal for the three mile drive to the airport?

Do you have suggestions for an easy airport hotel and best way to get to the airport at 5 am?

Your could rebook at a hotel near the airport with a shuttle service. That does seem kind of high for a 3 mile journey, it maybe that $65 is the set fee for transport to the airport regardless of where you start from.

I also recommend staying at the Hilton Rome Airport. So easy to walk from your room to your flight! Also very easy to take the train from Termini to the airport to get to the Hilton.

The set fee from Central Rome to FCO is € 50. I'd rather ask the Hotel to call a metered cab for me than paying a private limo driver $ 65 for 3 miles.

I agree with the comments about staying at the Hilton right at the airport = it's a short covered walk to the terminal and the hotel itself is clean and comfortable (I stayed there in November before our early flight and it was nice not to have to think about a taxi, shuttle, train or anything else).

Where does the flight go? ..... If to another Schengen country the 2 hrs should be OK....If to the US ( or other non-Schenegen country ) 3 hrs is the standard recommendation

Based on the info here, ( https://www.rome.net/taxi) the taxi fare you were offered looks excessive

When I left Rome two weeks ago, I stayed at the Hilton Airport hotel. I am old and walk with a cane and I had no problem walking the short distance from the hotel to the airport, while rolling my small bag.

I agree with the others - book your last night at the Hilton Airport.
We are traveling to Italy in Sept/Oct and we booked our last night in Rome at the Hilton Airport.
Anything that makes the travel day easier is worth the time & $$$

I also booked our last night at the Airport Hilton. Still planned activities in Rome as a normal siteseeing day. I'm expecting eat dinner in Rome before jumping on a train to the airport. Will leave the luggage at the hotel, picking it up after dinner on our way to Roma Tremini station. I also want to make it as easiest as possible dealing with airports. I found it better to sit and wait for the flight instead of running through check points and gates.
