Fly? Train? or Car from Puglia to Sicily?

Hello wonderful Travelers, I did see a couple of posts about this. Some say NO ON TRAIN. IS there a FRECCIA ROSSA TRAIN that can get me to SICILY?
If I were to fly with say, REYNAIR, what kind of luggage do they accept?

THANKS

LAURA

We flew Ryan air from Rome. We paid extra to carry on a regular sized carry on bag.ours were 21 inch. Their allowed luggage allowance otherwise is very small.

Ryanair flies from Bari to Catania or Palermo in a little over one hour (plus the time necessary for checking in, security procedures, boarding, etc.
If you go by train 11 hours aren’t enough.
If you drive you are looking at 5+ hours just to get to the ferry dock in Villa San Giovanni (Calabria).

Puglia is distant from other Italian regions, due both to its extreme east position, slow railway line between Taranto and Calabria, Apeninne mountains to be crossed to get to the Tirrenian side. Flying to/from Puglia often makes more sense than taking the train.

Ryanair basic baggage allowance is very reduced and strongly enforced, as selling you luggage supplements is one of their preferred marketing tricks. Be sure to read both baggage and check-in rules and stick to them religiously, or you will be hit by extra payments larger than the original ticket.
