Florence ZTL Zones

We have a group of eight leaving Florence by train. We need to return two rental cars to the airport. Is there a safe way to drop off six of them at the train station and avoid ZTL zones going there and then to airport? We will becoming from the Siena area.

You can Google where the ZTL zones are in Florence. But there shouldn't be a ZTL near the train station since it isn't in a historic zone.

But also watch out for driving in dedicated lines - buses only, etc. There are some near the station. Just pay attention to the signs.

Traffic patterns around the station have been changed this weekend due to long term works. There are two access itineraries: from via Jacopo da Diacceto and from via Nazionale. There are two exit itineraries: from via S. Caterina da Siena, turn right in via della Scala; or from via Valfonda (previously reserved to public transportation, now open).

In spite of being within the ZTL, these itineraries are free. Be sure not to drift away from these routes as you would be entering forbidden zones; there are two ZTL cameras at via Panzani (direction Duomo) and at via della Scala (if you turn left from via S. Caterina instead of right).

A possible alternative could be parking on the west side of Fortezza da Basso (there is a metered parking area) and enter the station from a ramp connecting the parking to platform 16. This would be the safest way to avoid ZTL cameras; but the access to the ramp will be reserved only to train ticket holders by the end of this year.

Yes it's possible.

Grazie lachera for letting me know via Valfonda is open in the direction of the Fortezza. Diving there this Thursday. So no need to go from Piazza Adua to via Faenza I suppose.

(Getting technical for Roberto).

Via Valfonda can now be driven exiting from piazza della Stazione to Fortezza. Not sure it can be driven in the opposite direction, I am afraid it is reserved to buses.

Arriving from via Nazionale, now you cannot anymore coast along the back of the church and the Carabinieri barracks to via S. Caterina; this is reserved to ZTL resident pass holders, and city police is going to check. This to avoid all the traffic ending in via della Scala; now you must turn right and exit from via Valfonda.

A major disruption in driving patterns is that via Guido Monaco is closed; tram tracks will be built and it will never open again for through traffic. Instead of driving via Guido Monaco, now you have to drive viale Belfiore, turn left and coast along the Arredotessile shop. From there, you can go straight to viale Rosselli or access the station through via Jacopo da Diacceto. Also via Alamanni is going to be closed. Horrible queues expected in the Porta a Prato zone.
