We will be in Florence for the day and I thought it would be nice to surprise my husband with an overnight stay. I prefer middle of the city. Not a chain hotel maybe a B&B? I looked online and yes many choices but where is that special one? Thanks
What is your budget, in euros?
My wife and I are budget travelers since we travel so much.
I usually go to Booking.com and filter the city low to high by price. Then I look for properties with substantially better customer ratings than others in the same price range. And I've never been disappointed.
We did an Airbnb right near the Ponte Vecchio, which was quite central. It was a nice, clean, safe average place that was in a great location. We would stay there again and the host was really nice and helpful to provide recommendations.
Thanks guys...I just wanted first hand experience from fellow travelers. Budget no more then 300 euros
With €300 you can stay pretty much in any 4 star hotel, and sometimes in some 5 star hotel too.
Berchielli on Lungarno Acciaiuoli is great for under €250.
If you like modern, try the Ponte Vecchio Suites and Spa, across the Arno from the Berchielli.
If you want to go cheaper (under 150€), still near Ponte Vecchio, try the Hotel La Scaletta, on via Guicciardini. But there are a ton of good ones at or under your budget.
We enjoyed Hotel La Scaletta and Hotel Torre Guelfa - both had rooftops for eating and drinking and we enjoyed the views immensely.
I haven't stayed at these but they are in my file -
La Dimora degli Angeli
Villa Bardini
Relais Tiffany
Il Bargello - has a rooftop bar
Hotel Tornabuoni - has a rooftop bar
Thanks! I booked a apartment in the middle of town with a great view of the Duomo. I actually used Airbnb for the very first time after reading the reviews of this apartment. I am wondering if we could book a early train now ..have to ask a separate question I guess lol
We've stayed twice at the Soggiorno Antica Torre, which is on the Piazza Signoria. It is spacious and clean. the location can't be beat.
We loved La Dimora degli Angeli! The location and view can't be beaten! The owners are incredibly friendly, the rooms large (esp for Italy), clean, and well decorated. The a/c was a lifesaver!!
I stayed in a "guest house" through AirBNB and it was my favorite rental so far. Right behind the Palazzo Vecchio in a former Palazzo. I was able to walk everywhere in Florence from the location.
I paid either $500 or 500 euros for 7 nights. I had my own kitchenette with Limoges china and a private bathroom.

All of the guest rooms in the apartment are en suite, but I believe this to be the only one with a kitchen. This is not a traditional BNB where you get a full breakfast. Cris has a common area where she has an automated Espresso/Coffee/Cappuccino machine, pastries and fruit for her guests. She inherited the floor of the palazzo from her Grandfather and it's full of artwork. The bed in my apartment was handcarved of walnut and it was gorgeous.
The neighborhood is very safe and Cris was able to recommend a lot of places to eat outside of the tourist areas. She also called taxis for me when I needed to return to the train station. While her English is not good and my Italian is worse, we were able to communicate through Spanish.
The only downfall for some would be a lack of elevator. No issue with me since I needed to walk off the wonderful food I ate in Florence. I would defintely return and would recommend staying out of hotels.
