Florence, Volterra, Cinque Terre transportation

I'll be in Tuscany this May, and among other trips, I will need to get from Florence to Volterra and from Volterra to Cinque Terre. I will most likely have a RailPass, but I understand Volterra involves buses. Here is my itinerary for those travel days: Friday, May 20 (late morning departure) Florence to Volterra Sunday, May 22 (late morning departure) Volterra to Cinque Terre Thank you in advance.

I apologize. My post above asks no specific question. How about this: Can anyone offer their experience and advice regarding my Volterra (both to and from) transportation plans involving trains and busses?

Robert, for the journeys you describe above, you certainly don't need a railpass. The easiest public transportation to all three places (plus Siena) is by bus. They don't accept the railpass. The buses are very modern. First, from Florence, you take the SITA bus to Colle Val d'Elsa. At Colle Val d'Elsa, you transfer to a CPT bus to Volterra. No train station in Voltera. The CPT bus runs between Volterra and Cecina which is on the Mediterranean coast. From Volterra to the CT, the only reasonable way to go is to take the CPT bus West to Cecina and take the train north to the CT.

There's another option for Volterra to Cinque Terre. You can take the CPT bus to Pontedera and catch the train to Cinque Terre from there. Bus and train stations in Pontedera are a short block apart, and many trains from Pontedera to La Spezia don't require a change in Pisa. I did Vernazza to Volterra using this route, and it worked well.
