Florence update: Uffizi changes, Duomo Museum still closed

Hi, all. Just finished touring Florence this morning. If you're going soon, please note that as of this date (16 Sept. 2015):

1) The Duomo Museum is still closed. However, you can climb to the top of the tower.

2) The Uffizi Gallery has moved around a lot of exhibits and they are no longer in the order given in the RS audio tour. A few big pieces are not available (the Durer Adam and Eve and the Martin Luther portrait) but the rest can still be viewed, just not necessarily in the order listed in the audio tour.

We had a great time anyway. Reservations essential for the major sights; the lines were very long at all hours.

Thanks for the update, especially with regards to the RS audio tour of the Uffizi. I will be there in a couple of weeks and downloaded the audio tour. Go to know. Question, does the Firenze Card allow you to avoid the lines altogether?

You will not be able to avoid lines altogether with a Firenze Card. We were in Florence in April 2014. The first time we tried to visit the Uffizi was in the afternoon and the FC line was so long that we decided to check out the Bargello instead. We had a moderate wait the next morning, but nothing like the line for people without reservations.

Thanks for the information! I'll hope for the best...I'll be in Florence for a few days and perhaps plan for a later afternoon visit presuming the big tour groups have come and gone. Perhaps wishful thinking. I appreciate the responses!

In Florence now with 9:15 reservation for Uffizi which we paid for online. Shipping options say "pick up on site." Where do we pick these up?

Thanks

Glad it helped. If you go to the main entrance, there's a reservation gate #1. They're labeled. The biggest line will be for no reservations, number 2. You should be able to pick up your tickets at number 1. Show your email to the staffer checking passes or just say you have a reservation (prenotazione).

I was at Uffizi about a week ago, and I can confirm it is very different than the RS audio tour. It was borderline useless. I saw one other person using the audio tour too, and she was just as confused about all the changes.

Also, Uffizi decided to have a "Staff Meeting" on the morning of my 9am reservation and didn't open the museum until 1030am. Then they had to let in about 2 hours worth of people at once (after we had been waiting 1-2+ hours in 3 different lines for my "reservation") and it was quite crowded. I was not a happy camper...
