Florence - Uffizi and Accademia Tickets

I am getting ready to book reservations for the Uffizi and Accademia in Florence but have no feel as to how much time I should allow between reservations. I know that how much time one spends at each depends on the individual, but am trying to figure how much time to allow for the "average" tourist. Any input will be much appreciated! Dottie

I would recommend a minimum of 3 hours at the Uffizi and about 2 hours at the Accademia with 30 to 45 minutes to get between the two museums (a little longer if you want lunch). We found that while Rick Steves recommended 2 hours at the the Uffizi that was a little tight. My opinion is if you are going to make reservations and go to the effort of going to the museum it's worth an extra hour to enjoy the fantastic works of art.

I am wearing a flak jacket, helmet and goggles. I am ready for paintball and I expect the worst. So here goes: I confess to being a total dullard about art; but, I make the pilgrimages and, gradually, it is sinking in. The Louvre and Orsay blew me away and I spent more than half a day in each. Same with the Uffizzi and, but for their time limit, the Galleria Borghese. I spent 2 hours in the Guggenheim, Venice and an hour in the Accademia Venice. I spent 15 minutes in the Accademia Florence, twice: first as a college kid, then again as a grown-up. After saying "hello" to Dave and then looking at the entryway's collection of almost-sculptures by Mike (which are very interesting) I was done. Went looking for gelato.

Hi Dottie, If you have the entire day there - I would suggest doing the Accademia in the morning and the Uffizi in the afternoon. When we went - we got reservations for the Accademia at 10:45am (we took the train up from Rome for the day) and booked the Uffizi for 3:30pm. This gave us plenty of time to grab lunch, shop through the market, view and climb the Duomo then head over to the Uffizi. After that - we explored the Ponte Vecchio on our way to dinner at Il Latini at 7:30pm. We spent about 1:15 hours in the Accademia and around 2.5 hours in the Uffizi. Thanks,
tracey

You can get your tickets for both at this site. How much time at each site? Try to do the Academia in the morning and the Uffizi in the afternoon. The Academia is small and after you see David and the other statues, you're pretty much done. Even if you take your time there, an hour is probably all you need. You might spend more time waiting in line to get in even with tickets. The Uffizi is kind of tough to say, it all depends how long you spend looking at all the paintings. If you follow Rick's book or podcast, it should take the same time he claims or half an hour more.
