Buongiorno! We're hoping to go to Venice, Vernazza, Firenze, and Greve-in-Chianti/Colognole.
We need advice as to the most efficient itinerary. We can do open-jaw with Florence and Venice (or other suggestions...) We'll rent cars for Greve. Any thoughts on doing this the right way would be greatly appreciated. Grazie mille for any help you can give! Best, Terry
I totally agree. I prefer leisurely but another couple really wants to be able to say they did some of the sites in Rome. It will be a mostly relaxed trip with a hectic ending!
Fly to Venezia Train to Florence After visiting Florence, rent a car in Florence. Head out to visit Tuscan countryside and small towns. Drive to La Spezia, return car rental Train from SP to Vernazza.
Train to departure city where you will likely have to spend the night prior to departure. Closest airports to Cinque Terre are: Pisa, Genoa. Milan is not too far.
Kind thanks Roberto! This is helpful. I just received an email from one of the travelers who is hoping we can work Rome into the trip. I hate to rush but will at least take a look at possibilities! Grazie...
I think with Italy there is the always the impulse to fit something else in, like Rome in this case. I won't call it a mistake, but you will certainly take time from one of the more leisurely parts of your trip, and also you won't be able to give Rome enough time to really do it properly even then. If you want a leisurely trip, you may regret that. If you want more of an Italy sampler plate, then that's different.
If you do this (add Rome) make sure you book an open jaw flight, so you don't back track. Either fly into Rome, go to Florence and then Venice and depart from Venice or the opposite. It will give you more time on the ground. Maybe you can day trip to Chianti out of Florence by bus or tour guide/driver. 4 days Rome,
4 days Florence (with day trip) 3 days Venice. Venice is quite small.
