Florence- tuscany- Amalfi honeymoon 11days

Hi

My husband and I are planning our honeymoon trip. We are looking to shop, eat and relax in relatively romantic but not extravagant hotels. We like relais farmhouse or any accomodation with local accents.

Day 1-3 (3nights) -
Florence pitti place-paid can't change
One day go to "the mall" outlet.

Day 4 (1 night)
Unknown

Day 5-6 (2 nights)
Chianti Locanda le piazze

Day 7 (1 night)
Montepulciano follonico B&B-paid can't change

Day 8-10 (3nights)
Positano marincanto

Day 11 (1 night)
Sorrento Capo la gala

Questions:
1) where shall we stay on day 4? Siena? Florence? Or somewhere else? *Our original plan to to stay day 4 at locanda le piazze, but it was sold out.

2) we will take public transit or walking in Florence. But we will drive in almalfi and tuscany, where would be the best place to pick up and return rental car?

3) how to get to positano from follonico B&B (montefollonico)

4) is this schedule too packed?

In reverse order:

4) - Yes. You are moving all the time. RELAX a little!

3) - Take a train to Salerno then a bus north to Positano. This will be a long travel day. Skip the car. It's a nightmare to park on the Amalfi Coast. Really.

2) - You only need a car for Chianti and Montelpulciano. Pick one up as you leave Firenze and drop it at the train station when you leave Montepulciano.

1) - Slow it down and stay another night in Firenze or another night in Chianti at your locanda. Since there is so much you cannot change already, at least you can give yourself a break from one-night-stays by adding to Firenze or Chianti. You can always use an extra day in Firenze to go to Fiesole or Siena.

A question for you: Where are you flying in-and-out-of? I wonder about what happens after 1 night in Sorrento....

We are flying into Florence and leaving from naples.

When we pick up the car from Florence, do most train station have car rental? Can we return the car at chiusi? My biggest headache is I don't know how to connect to positano.
I heard we can take the Intercity train from Chiusi to Rome, then you can catch an Eurostar from Rome to Naples.
How is this compare to your route? Which one save more time?

Also, any good places for antique furniture?

Just want to add something about getting to Positano (heaven). I don't know what time of year you will travel but, in my humble opinion...the way to Positano is fast train to Salerno, 5 minute walk to the Travelmar Ferry. 12 euro from Salerno to Positano with breathtaking views of the Amalfi coast (including a drop off in Amalfi). The ferry was incredible if you can do that I believe you will be happy with your choice.

hi sherry

I'm not sure if we understand each other.

My question left is how to get to positano from follonico B&B bear montepulciano.

Option A) pick up the car at Florence and return at chiusi. I heard we can take the Intercity train from Chiusi to Rome, then you can catch an Eurostar from Rome to Naples. Is this option viable? This save the back tracking time to Florence.
1) If it's ok, any rental company you would recommend that would allow this pick up /drop off arrangement?
2) how to get to positano from naples?

Option b) pick up and return car at Florence. I am guessing your fast train has to be taken at Florence (let me know if there's other closer point). Fast train from Florence to sorrento. Boat from sorrento to positano.

3) how is option B travelling time compare to option A?

4) we are travelling in late sept to beginning of oct

First...pick up your rental car at the Florence airport. There is no driving in Florence unless, you are Florentine, rich and lucky to get the required pass. To know where to pick up and drop off that is best ask your rental car company. We recommend www.autoeurope.com (auto rental consolidator) for their customer service and prices. Tell them the region you will be in, and that you need the drop off town to have rail connections to Rome.

To train from Chiusi to Rome you take a regional train then change to Eurostar Italia direct to Naples or Salerno. The Eurostar will require reservations and the longer regional trains can get very full! I second the advice on taking the ferry from Salerno as the coolest/fastest choice, the bus is the more affordable/slower choice. There is also a ferry from Sorrento to Positano in the summer months, fyi. You could take the train to Naples change out to the Circumvesuivana and ride it to Sorrento (end of the line).

As for what to do with that extra night. You could do a day trip to Lucca & Pisa from Florence and spend 4 nights total in Florence. Or consider picking up your rental car from the Florence airport then drive to Monticatini for an overnight (30minutes). Monticatini is a small thermal spa town in Tuscany with a long and interesting history. It would be a wonderful place to slow down, relax and "take the waters" at the Brits would say. You can then drive to Chiusi which is only a little over an hour away. When you are in Chiusi/Chianti region don't miss visiting San Gimignano and Volterra which are beautiful hill towns. Happy Travels!

In addition to AutoEurope, look at Kemwel. It's a sister company to AutoEurope, but for my most recent Italy trip, Kemwel had a far better price. Others have reported the same, but of course you have to check for your own dates, car size, pick up and drop off locations, etc.

Hi Sara

Good news! We were able to book extra night at chianti locanda le piazza, it was previously fully booked.

Another question if you don't mind.

When we have our rental car in Chianti do you recommend us 1) returning the rental in Florence and then the Eurostar to Serrento? Or 2) should we drop the car near Chianti and take the Eurostar from there to Serrento?

What is Florence Eurostar station address? Is it far from airport car rental drop off?

Thank you

Arezzo has a big antiques fair, lots of shops open year round. Day 4 would best be spent in Florence, you can take a daytrip to Arezzo, Lucca, or Lucca and Pisa if you run out of things to do in Florence.

If you have a car on the Amalfi Coast, I can recommend La Maurella hotel right on the water, private parking onsite. It's in Praiano, between Amalfi and Positano. Quiet but convenient to either direction, restaurants within walking distance. The hotel itself is small, all rooms have great views, beautifully decorated. Breakfast included. Michele (manager) alone is worth the trip.

All the hotel accomodation is sorted and paid.

The only outstanding is rental car and train logistics.

1...drop the car at the Chiusi-Chianciano Terme station.

2...train from Chiusi station to Salerno. Chiusi--Napoli Centrale (change train) Napoli Centrale-Salerno
this takes 4 hrs 46 min. cost is 28 euro
Ferry to Positano 1h12m 12 euro
Total travel time 6 hrs

3..If you get off at Napoli, (3 hrs 16 min) you would then take the Circumvesuvian to Sorrento 1 H36min. Then bus from Sorrento to Positano another 40 min.
Total travel time 5h32m
