Florence Tour with a Late Starting Time

We are headed to Florence in early May a few days before the start of our RS Villages of Italy tour. We have already booked a Taste Florence Food Tour on the afternoon of the second day and a full day Tour by Roberto (Chianti) on the third day.

We are looking for an "overview" tour for our first day. None of us have been to Florence before. The challenge is that our flight doesn't get in until a little after noon so by the time we get to our VRBO downtown it will be mid to late afternoon. Can anyone suggest an Florence overview tour that would start at 4 pm or later?

Florence is an easy place to walk around on your own. The RS book probably has a tour and he may have an audio tour. If your flight originated in the US, you may be too tired to concentrate on a tour of several hours.

I think you have enough tours set for your other days, adding another one might be duplicating some of the information. Florence is small enough to be able to wander and find some wonderful things on your own. I bet with a quick study of a part of a guidebook or podcast, you could find a direction to head after you get settled.

This walk can be done in either direction or starting at the Duomo. Or whichever sight is close to your hotel.

Mercado San Lorenzo>Santa Maria dei Fiori>Piazza Republica>Piazza Della Signoria>Palazzo Vecchio>
Uffizi Gallery>Ponte Vecchio>Pitti Palace>Santa Spirito> Ponte Trinita.

Mike, as "first day" means arrival day on an international flight, I wouldn't book any tours. Flights can be delayed or cancelled, thus losing the $$ you've pre-paid for the tour, and/or jet lag can have one too tired to get much of anything out of it. A self-guided walk is a much better idea as you can do as much or as little as you're up for or have time to do.

Not booking tours, museum tickets, train tickets or similar is pretty much standard advice for flight arrival days unless maybe short hops within the E.U.

Just agreeing with everything Kathy said. You don't know if you'll have the energy for a guided tour, and you don't know if you'll be late for a prebooked tour, so setting one up and prepaying for it on your arrival day is not a good idea.

If you get there on the early side and/or have more energy, take Rick's Florence Renaissance walk (you can get it on his app, on iTunes, or here by scrolling down to it): https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/audio/audio-tours/italy. If you are late and/or don't feel up to a walk with Rick, just walk around on your own; central Florence is compact.

Thanks Stacey. The tour you recommended seems to be specifically geared to those who are experiencing their first day in Europe. We booked it.
The RS Audio tour option is also a good suggestion.
I am sure that our adrenaline will kick in as it always does when we land in Europe so we can make it through that first day :-)
