i have one week. anyone think flying to florence stay 2 days hit up CT 2 days and venice 2 days would be ok? i would leave from venice to go home. arrive sunday early in florence and leave that saturday from venice. milan and pisa would be stops via train but would not stay night in these two cities. thoughts? concerns?
I think you may be underestimating travel time. Florence to Cinque Terre with a stop in Pisa will take 5-6 hours. That would give you part of an afternoon, an evening and full day in Cinque Terre, which is probably adequate. Travel time from Cinque Terre to Venice with a stop in Milan will chew up the good part of a day, giving you just one evening and a full day in Venice. You might consider flying into Pisa, visiting Pisa that morning and then going to Cinque Terre, followed by Florence and finally Venice. That would give you an extra half day in Venice, but sacrifices Milan.
Your idea is too ambitious. You would do better to fly into Venice and home from Pisa for 2 reasons. 1. The return flights leave Venice EARLY in the morning and transportation to the airport can be difficult/costly. 2. You may have jetlag and browsing around Venice absorbing the city is a painless way to recover.
If you only have 7 days you will lose 2-3 days to travel leaving only 4 days to visit.
I would do Venice and Florence then leave from Pisa. The Italians have a saying, "Il dolci far' niente." This means. "the sweetness of doing nothing." You are looking at a marathon at a dead run.
Buon viaggio,

Way too ambitious!!! With one week that includes travel time - Florence and Venice.
Ok sounds good, i understand. let me know how this would sound. May be tough - fly into Pisa (arrive sunday monrning) and head directly to CT staying sunday night, monday night. leave for florence early tuesday morning - arrive by noon tuesday. stay tuesday night and wednesday night and leave thursday morning for venice and stay thursday night, friday night leave early saturday morning for return home? i might be a fool for thinking this would work. i have visited all these places buy i'm taking my wife with me who has never been to europe.
thomas,
The Itinerary you mentioned in your last post sounds a lot more realistic. I'd check the Trenitalia website to determine departure times for the trains you'll be using.
Hope you both have a great holiday!
