Florence to Trastevere

Does anyone know what train to take if going from Florence to Trastevere?
I have looked on Rail Europe and Trenitalia but can't seem to find the right station.
Thanks,
Lin

Try Roma (Termini is the main station) next time you go on the Trenitalia website. Trastevere is a neighborhood in Rome.

Keep in mind that Trastevere is more a neighborhood than a town. There is a Trastevere station, but to be honest, it is likely located well away from your hotel.

From Florence, the easiest route is to just head to Roma Termini. From there, you can catch a bus, Bus H is probably best, from Termini, it stops at Argentina then continues up Via Trastevere, you figure out the best stop for you, or just get off the first stop past the river.

OK - thank you - that is exactly what I needed to know. Will take train to Termini. We are stayin on Via di Santa Bonosa - so will figure out best way from termini station.
Appreciate the replies

Just looking at a map, take bus "H" from termini, get off at the first stop after you cross the river, your hotel will only be a couple blocks away.

Thank you Paul-you've saved me some time- appreciate it. It will be my first time in Italy so am not savvy on bus routes or train but am learning. This forum has been so helpful

Get off the H bus right after it crosses over the Tiber. The stop is Piazza Sonnino. Your hotel will be close by. If you're nervous about recognizing the stop, use Google Maps Streetview to take a look around.

Buy your bus ticket(s) at Termini before you walk out to the various bus stations out front. You'll be looking for a bus station with a sign that says H and several other numbers. Look around there for a bus that reads "H (DEI CAPASSO)" on the display and get on. Validate your ticket on the bus in the stamping machine. FWIW, the H bus can get pretty crowded.

And you're going to love the Trastevere neighborhood. Be sure to wander over to Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere in the evening. It's great.

There's a great restaurant on the opposite end of Trastevere (towards the Vatican) called Marco G.

Linda,

Rather than hauling luggage on and off a Bus, I'd suggest travelling via Freccia train from Firenze SMN to Roma Termini (90 minutes) and then take a Taxi directly to your hotel. If you walk straight ahead with the tracks behind you, as soon as you exit the front door you'll see the Taxi ranks. It would be a good idea to have the name and address of your hotel written down to show the Taxi driver.

Even if the taxi queue is long, it moves fast. Don't get into a "taxi" that's not in the queue.

A taxi would certainly be easier. It would probably cost about 15 euros from Termini to your hotel in the northeast corner of Trastevere. Personally, I prefer to mingle with the Romans, but then I'm planning our fifth trip to Rome, so it's not intimidating to me like it might be to someone traveling there for the first time.

And definitely take only a taxi in the queue. The others are illegal and increase the odds you'll get scammed.
