Florence to Sienna

We are arriving from Newark to Florence on Friday 9/6 at noontime. We are staying in Florence 2 nights, Friday & Saturday. We have a flight to Palermo early Sunday morning 9/8 for a 10 day Rick Steves tour of Sicily .Will it be too much to try & do a day trip to Sienna on Saturday ? We've been to Florence but thought going to Sienna would be nice. Are we biting off more than we can chew by squeezing this in ? Your thoughts ?

You will know how you will feel when you get to Florence, Make the decision then but just know options to get there and back

A day trip to Siena is certainly possible. There are frequent trains, but on that particular route the Bus is often a better choice, as it drops passengers right in the center of Siena, rather than the bottom of the hill where the rail station is located. As I recall, the bus trip is about 1H:15M each way. The bus station in Florence is very close to Firenze SMN rail station.

As you have a flight early on Sunday, I'd suggest making an early return to Florence so that you have time to get packed and ready for the flight.

It sounds very reasonable to me. If you stay in Florence or go to Siena, I think Siena is easier to see than staying in crowded Florence. You would be over jet lag on second day especially if coming from east coast.

Your plan would be doable and I think Siena is lovely.

According to your interests, you could also consider a tour of the Chianti region, especially one that offers a food and wine pairing lunch. I think harvesting will have begun by then and the countryside would be lovely.
