Florence to Siena by taxi or private driver

We will be departing our hotel in Florence and going to Siena where we will have a private tour as well as picking up our rental car. Can you tell me how much a taxi would be or a private driver and where to find one? When it comes to private transfers, it seems like a tour is included thereby driving up the cost. Just trying to make it more convenient than taking a train/bus. Also is there a way the scenic route could be requested? Thank you!

Daytrip is a company I've used in Italy and some other countries when I've wanted a transfer without a tour. They'll do requested stopoffs or routes, too (for a fee).

Ditto what Roberto said. Rent in Florence and drive. Are you staying in Siena or only going for the tour?

If you absolutely want a driver:
We used Marco Accattatis for all our private transportation back in October. Marco is wonderful and priced very reasonably. He definitely can show you the scenic sights along the way. His drivers are all experienced and knowledgeable.

Thank you! We are renting the car in Siena because we've been told it can be a nightmare leaving and returning to Florence. I've read that you should rent a car in the closest town to where you are going with car rentals. Have you had a different experience? I've read that a taxi can be approximately 100 euros for Florence to Siena. Daytripper is 372 euros so for 2 of us that is a little on the high side. We have arranged for a tour in Siena and then going to where we are staying (45 minutes away). I will try to driver you used. Thank you!

Hundred of travelers rent cars in Florence and are able to head out of town without incident

There are directions here on the forum, use the Search function

You will have many more options if you rent in Florence
The airport is also a pick up location option

100 euros for a taxi Florence to Siena seems very low

Hiring a private driver or a taxi in Florence to drive you 50 miles away at a cost of at least 150€ to pick up a rental car in Siena is in my opinion financially insane.

If you are scared to drive in Florence, which there is no reason to, since driving in Siena is worse and with also a ZTL (the oldest in Italy in fact), you can pick up (and drop off) the car at the Florence airport and be on freeways from the start all the way to Siena exit.

In addition if you are one of the 90+% Americans who does not know how to drive a manual transmission car, your chances of finding a car with automatic transmission in Siena are lower since car rental offices there are smaller franchises.

I would definitely rent in Florence, but it is your trip and your money, so your choice.

Roberto, do you have anger issues? I find your post derogatory and not helpful at all. I wasn't going to respond but we are at an age where we can afford convenience. If you knew how much our trip is costing, you'd blow a gasket. It's all relevant. I wouldn't dream of telling you how to spend your money.

No I don’t have anger issues. Do you?

I told you, it’s your trip and your money, I couldn’t care less whether you follow our advice or not.

lover of Bassets, note that a Basset got good coverage at Crufts last week.

Also note Roberto's full tag. He grew up and learned to drive in Florence (Firenze to Italians), and returns frequently. He is one of the jewels of the Italy Forum, and knows of what he speaks.

He will give - give, I say - you safe routes out of and into Florence, and tell you how to avoid both ZTL huge fines and how to avoid a speed check on what looks like a dual carriageway.

He dispenses excellent advice.

You are right, it is your money, and you can spend it however you like. Makes us no never mind.

I personally found the drive to Siena very easy, but boring as it is by no means the most scenic part of Tuscany.

Siena was great, and easy parking under the walls.
