Florence to San Gimingnano

We are staying in Florence and want to visit San Gimingnano as a day trip.
Is there public transport to SanGimingnano or am I restricted to a tour (4 of us). We don't want to drive.

We also did the same tour. Grayline tours in Florence are offered by CAF Tours. Next, there is a great local bus service between San G. and Florence. It looks like the runs route through Poggibonsi which is a town near San G. Here's the link. http://www.sangimignano.net/bus/

There is also a public bus from the train station in Poggibonsi, if that works better for you.

We used the tour guide Paola mentioned in the RS book under Florence. She has her own van and provided us with excellent info along the way. Paola also got us to the front of any line and the top of any hill with no trouble. Worth every penny.

Hi, we are doing the same thing and I have hired a private driver "Mario" who is going to take us (family of four) from our hotel in Florence to San G.......and the cost I believe was either 140 Euros or 160......from 930 in the morning unitl 130 in the afternoon.

If you'd like I can give you his website.
