Florence to Rome

My wife and I will be in Florence on June 5th and 6th and have a flight out of FCO on June 7th at noon. We are trying to maximize our time in Florence; is there anyway to stay the night of the 6th and somehow get to FCO for our flight at noon? If not, is there somewhere near the airport that we can stay and still enjoy Rome on the last night? And one last question, when we check out of our hotel in Florence, we would still like to do some sightseeing. If the hotel wont allow us to store our bags on premises, is there anywhere we can pay to have our bags stored for a few hours? thank you.

I wouldn't chance it to go in the morning. You can probably make it and arriving at the airport 2 hrs ahead of departure are sufficient in my experience. Term. 5 is pretty efficient with processing check ins to the US. My issue has to do with the possibility of train delay. It occasionally happens (usually because of railroad work on the line). I would go to Rome the evening before, get to Rome by dinner time and stay at a hotel in the city center (close to Termini if you take the train to FCO). But if it's 2 or more people, a taxi is very convenient and not that expensive. The taxi ride (30 minutes) is ~50 euro while the train ride is 14euro per person. If it's 3 of you it's definitely better to take a taxi.

If you are willing to take the risk, there is a 6:50 am train out of Florence that can get you to the airport by 9:23 with a connection at Rome Termini.
I have never had a hotel that would not hold my bags for a few hours after checkout. Its pretty standard.

If you're flying home from FCO, it's wise to be there a full three hours before your scheduled departure time. You could take the last high-speed train from Florence to Rome, departing at 22:04 and arriving at 23:30. Stay close to Termini and take either the Leonardo Express or a Terravision bus from Termini to FCO in the morning. The fare for the bus is only €4.00. As Sam said, you should be able to store your bags at your hotel after checking out. If that doesn't work, store them at the Santa Maria Novella train station.
