Florence to Orvieto—should we take the train or a bus?

There are frequent Regionale trains traveling from Florence to Orvieto.

You may book your tickets on trenitalia.com or on the trenitalia app, or at the train station.

Once you arrive to Orvieto’s train station, you’ll need to take the funicular, or a bus, up to the city center.

Hi, Giangilberto from Milan, there is just one thing to note: the Orvieto funicular is temporarily closed for major maintenance.
A shuttle bus service connecting Piazza Matteotti (train station) and Piazza Cahen (and vice versa) is operating with the same frequency as the funicular.
Weekday schedule: first trip moved up to 7:10 AM; then, from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM, departures every 10 minutes.
Weekend/holiday schedule: from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM, with departures every 15 minutes (subject to increased frequency for special events).
