Hello All,
I posted this topic in "France" as well but I am curious about driving from Florence to Nice. My husband and I will be traveling to Rome and Florence for his 40th birthday but we cannot decide what to do with the additional 3 days of our trip. One option is to drive from Florence to Nice. Has anyone ever done this drive? Or does anyone have additional ideas for what to do with our time? I know we could got to Venice but for some reason both of us feel lack luster about that option.
Stephanie - I am concluding a five day stay in Nice tomorrow w/ a mid day flight to Venice.
While I can't speak to the drive, I can recommend the city as a destination, particularly as a last stop of your travel plans. It's beautiful and the pace quite relaxing.
We had just come from visiting Paris. Visiting Nice is a completely different experience by comparison.
Great! I am excited to see a different part of France, we have been to Paris too, so I hope it works out. Thanks for you info!
The drive is under 5 hours including pit stops. 100% spectacular freeway driving with lots of tunnels and viaducts.
If you pick up a rental in one country and drop it off in another there are huge drop off fees charged by the rental companies. Not sure if you intend to drop your car in Nice, but I wanted to let you know this.
Roberto,
That is what I am learning. Looks like our best bet might be to drive to Sanremo and take the train from there to Nice. Seems like it will be a spectacular drive though!
I think only Avis might be in Sanremo. Genoa and Savona are the cities where you will find offices of all major rental companies.
stephanie,
The easiest method would be to just take the train for the entire trip, as that avoids the issue of drop-off fees and finding towns with an office from the firm that you've rented from. It will likely be slightly longer than driving, but a more relaxing journey. One of the quickest trips appears to be a departure from Firenze Campo di Marte at 07:39, arriving Nice at 14:07 (time 6H:28M, 2 changes in Genova and Ventimiglia).
