Florence to Montepulciano by train & bus

Has anyone taken the train to Chiusi from Santa Maria Novella station in Florence, then the local bus from Chiusi to Montepulciano? I don't want to rent a car in Florence, but would like to spend a few nights in Montepulciano then do the reverse. Is the bus in Chiusi near the train station? How long does it take? Thanks.

This is the website of the company running the buses: https://www.tiemmespa.it/. I don't see an English-language option, but perhaps I'm overlooking it. I selected the first Chiusi option and the first Montepulciano option. It appears that either but FT4 or FT 5 will work. A bit more research uncovered the name of a bus stop in Chiusi, Chiusi Stazione - Piazza Dante, which indicates it's very near the train station. Choosing that from the list of origins confirms that the FT 4 bus is faster (48 min. vs. 63 min. from the station).

I have taken the bus from Florence to Siena then local bus to Montepulciano. Easy and low cost.
No need for train.

Yes, we have taken the bus from Chiusi to Montepulciano - full of school kids but certainly doable.

Hi Catherine,

I took the train from Arezzo to Chiusi and then the bus to Montepulciano. The bus stop is very near the train station. I asked a person outside just to ensure I was waiting in the correct parking area.

I didn’t have school children in my bus - maybe just the time of day. Be sure to validate and keep your bus ticket! On the way back to Chiusi, the inspectors got on the bus midway and checked tickets. Luckily I could find the right one because I usually put my validated tickets loosely in my backpack!

I also took the bus my third day over to Pienza. If you go, be sure to have gelato at Buon Gusto - delicious! Also in Montepulciano, at the bus stop, go inside the shop and buy a ticket for the small orange shuttle bus that will take you up, up, up the hill. One of the best 1-2 Euro bargains!

We were in Montepulciano in July without a car. Instead of a bus to and from the Chuisi stazione we took a cab. €50 Each direction, but for us, well worth it. We were staying outside of the city, so would have had to get a cab from the bus station anyway. And apparently there are only a couple taxis in the city.
