Florence to Ischia

Hello! My husband and I will be spending a month (April '13) based in Florence Italy. We were considering a trip down to Ischia. We are estimating 4 days, is this reasonable? Also should we book hotel or go on the fly and find a place when we arrive?
We would take the high speed train FLR-Naples then the hydrofoil to Ischia. We plan to see the castle, thermal springs, and some gardens. We are not 'see everything rush rush rush' type people. So one day there, two days puttering around and one day back?

Sarah, Your plan sounds good. That's probably the same method I'd use. You'll probably have to take a Taxi from Napoli Centrale to Molo Beverello and the Hydrofoil. Be sure to read the warnings in the Guidebook regarding Taxi drivers in Naples. I believe they're supposed to offer a prezzo fisso (fixed price) fare to the docks, so I'd probably settle on the price before the wheels turn. Happy travels!

Sarah, You could also take the Alibus from the train station to the port.
Cost 3 euro runs every 20 minutes.

Lucky you Sarah! If you go over to the Italy forum on Tripadvisor and do an Ischia search, you will see many posts by ABritInIschia - his name is Peter and he is very knowledgeable and helpful on the details of the Island (since he lives there)! How did you get so lucky to escape Portland to Florence during our lovely rainy April?! :-)

Sarah: I'm curious. Why Ischia and how did you learn about it, etc. Will you comment please? (I read a recent article about Ischia in some travel magazine & became intrigued about it, but with limited time, and so many other things to see in Italy, I just wonder...) Thanx,
Alfredo

ekc- saving pennies and booking in advance!
Alfredo- My husband loves castles, so I googled (castle+Italy)and up popped Ischia. We are pretty loose with our travel plans and this seemed like a nice trip. We don't ever form firm itineraries just think of a handful of ideas and see what shakes out. I know that seems crazy to some, but it works for us.
