Florence to Frankfurt: airport timing

On a Sunday in late November, our flight from Florence to Frankfurt is at 6:40 p.m. Should we get to the airport two hours beforehand, or three? I'm trying to figure out how much time we'll be able to spend in Florence that day before heading for the Volainbus.

If it matters, I booked through Lufthansa but apparently the flight is operated by Air Dolomiti.

3 hours is total overkill for what amounts to a domestic (intraSchengen) flight. We arrived 90 min before our early morning flight and spent a long time twiddling our thumbs after clearing security (and we had bags to check first). Don't know how much time you need to get to the bus, or how long the bus takes. It took us less than half an hour from our central hotel by taxi.

Florence is small airport. I would plan on at least an hour and half but no more. I would sit in the gate area for 30 minutes rather than running up with five minutes to go.

If you get at the airport one hour before departure you will still have plenty of time to kill. There are only 6 flights leaving in the morning (all in 100 seats regional jets) and the airport is smaller than the average single family home in much of the Midwest. The check in will take you two minutes in November.
