HELP! Florence to Cinque Terre/ La Spezia

Hi Everyone,
I will be traveling to Cinque Terre from Florence in early July. From what I've seen, it's a pretty simple trip through Pisa and La Spezia. The problem is, whenever I try to search for tickets on trenitalia or bahn, no tickets come up. I would like to purchase these before I go, any tips on how I can get results on these websites? Thanks for your help.

Do not bother buying these local train tickets now. Just get them at the train station when you are ready to travel. Trains are quite frequent on this route.

If you aren't sure of the route, then use the ticket office, otherwise, use the kiosks...so easy to purchase with cash or a credit card, takes just a few seconds.

Alyssa,

Some parts of the schedules past 12 June have not been uploaded yet, so that's likely why you're not seeing any solutions on the website.

You won't be able to buy tickets from the Bahn.de website, but you can certainly check schedules there. In addition to Trenitalia, you can also purchase tickets for Italian trains at www.captaintrain.com at the same price as from Trenitalia.

Some of the trains you'll be using between Florence and the Cinque Terre will be Regionale trains, and there's no reason to buy those tickets in advance, as there are no discounts. It's just as easy to buy them at the local stations, either from a Kiosk or a staffed ticket office. I normally buy tickets the day prior to travel, so that I don't have to bother with that when I'm hauling luggage. One important point to mention is that you MUST validate locally purchased Regionale tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or risk hefty fines!

Speaking of fines. Just back from Italy, and on one of our trains (I think it was Orvieto to Rome) a gal didn't have a validated ticket.
While the conductor was very nice about it (I've seen some mean ones) She did get charged 51E. The fare for that trip is about 7E.

So - make sure you validate (stamp) your ticket prior to getting on any train, or face the consequences of a huge fine.

Also, I heard him tell her (she was American, or Canadian) that he was taking pity on her, and that he was fining her based on a "child" fare, so the 51E was a greatly reduced fine.
