Four nights in Florence, thinking maybe one day tour, out of town. Will see the Villages for only one day, while on the RS Italy Village Tour so another day might be nice, or insane? Any others I should do? Not into food tours. May just wonder the streets for 3 days. Thank you .
On villages tour you stay in Levento, a 10 min at most train ride from the villages so you have the whole day there. The villages are small and close together so you will have plenty of time to visit them all on the day you are there.
You could go to Pisa very easily from Florence.
No, it is too far away. Pick something like Siena that is near.
I agree. You would spend most of your time traveling. Go to Sienna (bus). It is a wonderful place. Make sure you visit the Piccolomini Library at the cathedral. https://operaduomo.siena.it/it/luoghi/libreria_piccolomini/
That's like a 5 hour return trip by train, isn't it
Nope, the quickest way to the region is the 07:54 from Firenze Campo Di Marte to La Spezia in 1h, 43 min, no changes, From there it's just minutes by regionale trains to the 5 Terre. Going back, quickest is the 19:48 or 22:42 from La Spezia to Campo Di Marte in 1h, 41 min or 1h, 52 min respectively.
But if you will already have done a day with the RS tour, I wouldn't go back on a day trip. The CT is best done with at least one overnight so you can experience the evening/early morning hours without the mob of other day-trippers. There is also a LOT to see in Florence so I'm a bit confused about the wondering if you'll just wander the streets for 3 days? I'm thinking there was a reason you booked 4 nights in Florence to begin with? Can we help you with a sightseeing list?
Not sure what villages you are already seeing, but I recommend Siena, Lucca, San Giamengiano, Pisa, or Volterra (please excuse the spelling) for a day trip. Even a day trip to Venice or Rome (via high speed train) would be easier than cinque terre. But also, there is a lot to see and do in Florence itself and it might be nice to simply enjoy your 3 days (and 4 nights) there, especially after hopping from place to place on the tour. I wouldn’t mind having a whole week in Florence myself.
