My wife and I will be renting a car and driving from Florence to Casole d'Elsa, a small hill town which has an art center and school. I was thinking of stopping in Volterra, which I have briefly visited a few years ago, but it is a little out of the way. We would be going through Colle Val d'Elsa, part of which is a medieval hill town. Has anyone been there, and would you choose it or Volterra? Or is there another interesting place in the area ? (other than San Gimignano, where I have also been)
Colle is a splendid medieval town to visit. It would be a top world destination if it weren't surrounded at a very short distance by world famous giants like Siena, Volterra, Monteriggioni and San Gimignano. Put Colle Val D'Elsa in America and it would be the most visited town in the Western Hemisphere, hands down.
