Has anyone taken a day or two day trip to Bologna via car or train. We're also considering touring the Parma and Modena and Fararra region in Emilia.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My daughter and I took the train from Florence to Bologna last month and spent a lovely two days in Bologna. The train trip was short, the weather was lovely and Bologna wasn't nearly as crowded and cranky as the other Italian cities we visited.
What specifically did you want to know?
Hi, Joseph.
Yes. Bologna is about an hour by train from Firenze.
You'll want to make sure you check out Piazza Maggiore while there. Bologna also has a lively college scene. You'll love it there.
Also... Don't forget to have some mortadella, either as antipasto or in a sandwich. Somehow, eating REAL bologna in the place of its origin makes it taste even better! :-)
Ciao for niao!
train is really easy, the main station is at the foot of the old town. Lots of beautiful covered sidewalks. Piazza Maggiore is nice; check in with the tourist office to see when walking tours are offered. I did one in english and it was well worth it. Also there is an old tower with a slight lean you can climb; great views of the city! Rick's guide books don't cover Bologna (I believe) but others do.
