Mary, That trip is going to be a bit "challenging" in such a short time frame. The quickest way to get there would be EuroStar Italia / Alta Velocita from Firenze to Napoli Centrale, and then Cirumvesuviana from there to Sorrento. As you're planning on visiting Pompeii the following day, Sorrento is the best "home base" for that area. The trip from Firenze to Napoli will be 2H:56M, and then another hour or so on the Circumvesuviana (plus waiting times of course). That trip will take the better part of half a day. The trip will be reversed back to Rome, but the travel time from Napoli to Rome is as short as 1H:10M (depending on which train you choose). Are you planning to only spend ONE DAY in Rome? You won't have time to see much (and there's a LOT to see there). From Rome to Venice, the trip will be a minimum of 3H:43M, via EuroStar Italia. Note that reservations are compulsory on the "fast" trains in Italy. This will be included with your ticket if you're travelling with P-P tickets. You can use the Trenitalia website to work out rail travel details. You may also find it helpful to have a look at This Excellent Website. Happy travels!
