We are a goupe of 4 adults arriving in the Florence Italy airport. How many people can use a single taxi on the same trip to the city center?

Four. Bigger question --- how much luggage. That is a bigger limitation.

4 adults, 4 small bags (under seat) and 4 medium bags (carry on).

Most cars are registered for five people including the driver so seating four adults would not be a problem. It is quite unlikely that you can stuff eight bags - or even the four major ones - in an average taxi trunk. Either you ask for a very big taxi, or you take two of them.
