I am arriving in Florence Peretola airport and need to get to Greve. I was told the car service would charge 175 euro for the trip.
There is a bus for much less but you have to go into the city. Greve is about 25 miles and 30-40 minutes away
What is the taxi situation at the airport; is it regulated, is it all by meter, can you negotiate a flat fee, are there agents curbside that oversee it? An online servie etimates the cost to be between 65-75 euro for the trip to Greve.
Any help would be appreciated.
Is that online service estimate include the return trip for the cab driver which would you also have to pay for unlike here in the states. That 65-75 euro trip there would be doubled to pay for the driver to return from where he picked you up from and cost you 130-150 euro total. More then likely the driver wouldn't have a fare or passengar from Greve back to Florenc. About similar to the car service price.
Thank you, did not know that. Sounds like the quote is reasonable

Take taxi to train station (€20+baggage fee). Then SITA bus from there.
Bus service runs fairly often through the day but be careful of footnotes at http://www.sitabus.it/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Firenze-Gaiole.pdf.
Thank you for your reply, I was hoping for something simpler and not have to travel into Florence to catch a bus.
Time is important and the flight arrives late afternoon.
I think we will take the cab option...
skip,
As previously mentioned, the Taxi from the airport into Florence is quite reasonable and as I recall it's a "flat rate" (higher at night) The airport is relatively close to the city centre, so it's not a long ride.
THIS website provides a good estimate of the options. I don't know when this was last updated, but THIS timetable should provide some idea of the departure times (go to page 25). The Bus station in Florence is just a short distance from Firenze SMN rail station, and the Taxi can drop you right at the Bus station. If you decide to travel by Bus, don't forget to validate your tickets prior to boarding.
Happy travels!
