Florence Soccer match

Has anyone been to one of the Italian Soccer matches? There's a soccer match (my husband corrected me when I called it a game) in Florence on Sept 11 that we could easily take the train to from Cortona. We've never been to any "adult" or professional soccer match and thought this might be a fun Italian experience. Any feedback, good or bad is greatly appreciated.

Just remember, you need your passport when buying calcio tickets in Italy. They play Bologna that day so shouldn't be hard to get tickets.

I assume you know the Sept. 11 game starts at 3 p.m. You're lucky that the 9.34 train from Camucia-Cortona stops (at 10.39) at Firenze C.M. (the Campo di Marte station, five blocks from the stadium. Just walk up the bridge over the rail lines and you'll see the "stadio." Or you can proceed to the main station, arriving at 10.49, and bus it from there. (2nd. class is 7.40 euros, no need for seat reservation or advance booking.) The Fiorentina ticket office, nearby at Via Dupre 28 Rosso, opens at 10 a.m. and stays open till game time. There are places to eat close to the stadium, or sample the fabulous porchetta sandwiches from the stands you'll see around it. And yes, take your passports with you, needed to buy tickets and be allowed in. Pick high seats -- they're all numbered -- in Maratona Centrale or Maratona laterale. Ask for discounts if you're seniors, also discounts for women.

Rik and Guy,
Thanks for the info. We were looking at the train schedules and google mapped the proximity of the train station to the stadium but the additional information regarding passports, train tickets, and food are greatly appreciated.
