Florence sleeping accomodations

I would like to experience staying in a home and feeling like a local for a few days instead of staying in a hotel. Any suggestions for a place in Florence?

Kathy, My son and I just came from 12 days in Italy and one of our favorite cities was Florence. We had a nice stay at http://www.istitutogould.it/foresteria/indexing.html I made our reservations at Monestry Stays and from what I understand they upcharge reservations 20%. So going directly will save a little cash, which can be spent on a gellato! This house was very modest, nothing fancy. It was in a great location with a couple good restraunts close by. Hope this helps. Have a great trip. MJ

We spent seven days this summer two blocks from the duomo at http://www.residenzarondinelli.it/eng/apartment2+2.php and were extremely happy. Having a full modern kitchen and beds was wonderful. We just bought food at the foreign restaurants near the Mercato Central, and at the deli in the mercato, and brought it home to eat.

Last year, we stayed at a wonderful B&B in Florence, near Santa Croce and within a 10-minute walk of Piazza della Repubblica. It's called Casa dei Tintori, and it's beautiful inside. The owners, Valeria and Alfredo, were gracious and welcoming, and seemed to enjoy spoiling our daughter with chocolate breakfast treats. http://www.casadeitintori.it/en/.

Portal de Faenza is a very nice, safe, clean hotel near the SNM station.

I can't recommend a home, but I CAN recommend a great hotel close to everything you may want to see in Florence. That would be the Grand Hotel Baglioni. (www.hotelbaglioni.it) It's within walking distance of the main train station; close to the Basilica, museums, and within walking distance of Ponti Vecchio. The restaurant on the top of the hotel was very good and the staff was extremely accommodating. We definitely plan on returning.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at Residenza Il Villino B & B. It has about 10 rooms and was one of the highlights for our stay in Italy. Loved visiting with the owners and other guests. It was reasonable and had a nice breakfast - not large but adequate. It is in the old part of Florence so you do have to walk a little bit but that was part of the charm. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor for more information.

I would agree with Laura's post. My wife and I stayed for five nights at the Residenza Il Villino B & B in late Sept/early Oct and enjoyed our stay very much. The hosts (Sergio, Elizabeth, and son Lorenzo) were very gracious, and our room accommodation was very nice, almost like a small apartment. It was only a 5 - 10 minute walk to central Florence.

Hi Kathy; We spent one night in Florence at: http://www.calza.it/ It is a former religious facility on the South Side of the Orno River, near the Roman Gate, Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace.
We liked it a lot and have a great trip! Vic
