florence side trips

I will be meeting up with my daughter next month in Florence while she finishes up a summer course. I have some free time and was wondering should I go to Sienna or has anyone done a wine tour close by or a bike tour through wineries? I was in Florence 2 years ago and did Cinque Terre.(loved it) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have not been to Siena, you must go, highly recommended by the experts. Rick has 40+ pages in his book: Florence & Tuscany, it will tell you what you want to know. If you only have a day, this is the best use of your time.

Hi Debbie,

I would definately recommend Siena and San Gimignano. We booked ahead of time through expedia.com. We picked up the bus near the train station. It was a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend it.

Two words: Accidental Tourist. They are in the Rick Steves books and they were wonderful! We did the winetasting and cooking class- we made ravioli and then had it cooked by a lovely woman in her kitchen in Chianti. They have a website:www.accidentaltourist.com worth every euro! (They do all the driving too)

I think both Siena and SG are a must. Just got back from visiting Florence, Siena and SG and loved them all.
