I will be in Florence on a cruise stop (Livorno actually). I have booked a four hour tour that ends at 2:30. We'll have another three hours free after that. Our tour includes the Academia. Any suggestions on what to do with our free time? Uffizi? Pitti Palace? Boboli Gardens?
See if you can get tickets for the Uffizi. See as much as you want there or book a highlights tour. We used ArtViva.
Then go to the Boboli Gardens if you have extra time left. We spent four days there to see what you list so I hope you can see most of them.
Do you have transport back to the ship? Florence is not that close to Livorno. Roughly an hour and half or a little less by train so that needs to be factored into your plans. Unless you are saying you have till 5.30 when the bus takes you back to the ship. You could easily spend the less than 3 hours wondering though Florence -- see the Cathedral, the Baptistery, Medici chapels, the shops over the Arno river. My only problem with the Uffizi is that is huge and can easily suck up hours. Ducking in for 30 minutes or an hour is a taste but hardily does it justice. I would kill the three by wondering the streets -- lots to see, do and sample.
Our ship stays in Livorno overnight so we don't have to rush back. The tour guide has arranged private transportation for us.
If you love art do the Uffizi but book a reservation in advance. If you’re like me that will take up the rest of your time and you won’t even be finished with the museum when you have to leave. If you like sculpture the Bargello would be an easier option. If you’re not as into art do the Boboli Gardens.
If you don't have to be back at the ship to sail the same night, then get the driver to pick you up from Florence at a later time to give you more time to explore.
