Florence Segway Tour

Would be interested in anyones first hand experience with Florence Segway tours. My husband and I are taking a train into Florence for one day from Cortona, and seems like a great way to see and hear about Florence in a few hours. Since we'll be a week and a half into our trip, a break from exceessive walking may be a pleasant break. Thanks in advance your feedback.

I would truly like to encounter 'exceessive' walking. Florence beckons and blisters be damned! I'm more afraid of scaring small children as I vituperate whilst trying to negotiate all those cobbles on a scooter.

Karen, I haven't taken the Segway Tour in Florence, but have taken the one in Paris. It was a lot of fun and a somewhat unique experience (albeit a bit "pricey"). I may try a Segway Tour in either Berlin or Prague when I'm there this year, although when I'm packing my full Camera kit I may exceed the 260 lb. weight limit.

I also had a great time on the Paris Segway tour. While you don't walk, you do stand the whole time, either while you're on the machine, or while you're standing next to it when you stop at a site. I find that standing is more tiring than walking. So fun, yes. Pleasant break for your feet, probably not.

We walked past a Segway TOur group yesterday in Florence. It was 104 degrees and everyone in the group was sweating under their helmets (which of course they were very smart to wear). Of course, it was hot for us also but at least we could sit and fan ourselves once in a while! I don't think I would enjoy such a tour in the summer's heat.

Back from Italy, and by the way, the Florence Segway tour was a blast. Since it was from 10-1, it wasn't too hot yet. We'd done a tone of walking, and despite moleskin and band aids, I had a couple of huge blisters on my little toes that I was nursing. So the 3 hour Segway tour was a great way to move around all of Florence, get a great tour with only 1 other couple, and get a "view" above the masses of other LARGE tour groups. Would absolutely recommend!
It took all of about 20 seconds to get used to and maneuvering through streets and crowds was easy.

Soon there will be an XTREME! segway competition: Il Giro di Positano. I will watch that.
