Or should I change plans for one month later? Will mid sept be still quite hot? I know it's an unknown but how hot does it stay in September?

Check out www.wunderground.com and use the "Almanac and History" feature to investigate the weather for those cities on your selected dates for previous years. It's not a crystal ball, but it should give you an idea.
