Can anyone recommend a good tour company for either small group or private tours? We will only have two days in Rome and three in Florence.
Thanks in advance.
Angel Tours (www.angeltoursrome.com) and Context Rome (www.contextrome.com) both do great group and private tours.
I have no hesitation in recommending Angel tours in Rome. They do a really good late afternoon walking tour around all the major sights in Rome - Trevi fountain, Pantheon etc. Check out their website - www.angletoursrome.com
For Rome, I used Sky Rome Tours, though many of our guides were actually from Angel Tours (I guess they share the same pool of guides). Native English speakers, mostly from the UK. Took all three tours (Rome walk at night, Colosseum/Palantine hill, Vatican).
For Florence, I used Artviva (www.italy.artviva.com). The guides were very good. I did the "Florence in a Day" tour that included a 3-hour walking tour, David tour, and Uffizi tour. They allow you to spread the tours out over two days, which I highly recommend to give yourself a break. Native English speakers, mostly from the US. Great guides, great company service.
One piece of advice - I would pre-register, but not pre-pay if you can for Artviva. They have a strict no-show policy - no refund! - and things can always happen when you're traveling. You can pay at the office when you arrive, including cash or credit card, we saw many people doing it.
Enjoy!!

Thanks you for your quick response. I will try out the Angel Tours and check into the Artviva for Florence and see if I can pay later.
We just got back from Rome and we used Through Eternity Tours, english speaking from the US, pay at the end of the day, takes a lot of the work out of the day. Plan on a good 8 hour day.
