Florence Restaurants

We will be in Florence for a couple of weeks and need some ideas for great meals (I know. . . They are ALL great) But I'd like to hear your ideas, but make them walkable.

This is a good website.
In Italian only, so most of the ranking comes from locals.

Sort by ranking and my favorites are all in the top 3 pages.
Of course Enoteca Pinchiorri is famously the top rated, but unless you are in the mood to spend $400 per person to come out of the restaurant hungry, you'll probably do better with any of the others. It also shows the average price of a meal for one person (in euro).

For excellent food, good ambiance, and fine wine, try Olio & Convivium Gastronomia Restaurant. It's on the Pitti Palace side of the river on Via di Santo Spirito. The web site a year or so back was https://oliorestaurant.it/. A bit pricey at lunch and more so at dinner. But the overall experience was worth it. Will definitely eat there again.

Another place we liked was Giglio Rosso located at 35 via Panzani. Been in business for almost 100 years. Their web site is https://www.ristorantegigliorosso.com/en/about/.

You can check then out ahead of time and see what you think.

Florence was our favorite food city! We tend to traditional, classic trattorias as opposed to high-end fine dining. We walked to all of these. Here are some we loved:

Dinner

Sostanza: old school trattoria, famous for their butter chicken. You’ll need a reservation.

Vini e Vecchi Sapori: hands down our favorite meal in 🇮🇹. We still talk about the duck ragu!

Osteria Antica Mescita San Niccolò: across the Arno, bistecca Florentino

Lunch

All’Antico Vinaio: could eat a sandwich from here everyday! So good. The Summer was our fave. https://www.allanticovinaio.com/il-menu-firenze/
Mercato Centrale: great food hall with lots of choices, open seating

Gelato
La Carrai: just across the Arno
Carabè Firenze: near the Accademia

Drinks: if weather permits, the rooftop bar at the Westin overlooking the Arno has amazing views.

After hesitating to name the casual places we most enjoyed eating at in Florence, I now see that someone has mentioned two of them already. So, here goes. We stayed in Florence a total of six weeks and mostly made dinners in our apartment, so these are more like lunch places or sandwich places we ate at more than once.

Osteria Antica Mescita --- Via di S. Niccolò, 60 r, San Niccolo

'ino --- Via del Georgofili, 3
Al Tranvai — Piazza Torquato Tasso, 14r, San Frediano
S.forno Panificio --- Via Santa Monaca, 3r
All'Antico Vinaio --- Via dei Neri, 74

well since you asked:
Mercato Centrale for a good variety of foods and to explore the market, we really like the communal type dining. There are also street vendors outside selling all sorts of goods/merchandise.
Bisteca- What Florence is known for, our favorite spot is All'Antico Ristoro di Cambi. Reservations are needed and you can make them on The Fork
Must Try sandwich: All'Antico Vinaio- street food eaten on the same street where you can find a place to plop down.

I love Osteria Santo Spirito and recommend it to all my friends who visit the city. To say I've eaten there 25 times is not an exaggeration and I've enjoyed my meal every time. I especially appreciate the fact that you can order half-portions of many of the dishes--which means you can try more than one without stuffing yourself.
