i have read multiple stories about renting a car in Florence and then accidentally stumbling into the ZTL (restricted traffic zone) and incurring a large fine. It seems like it's less of an issue picking up the car where it's a straight shot out of town, but more likely to occur on the return where it's more difficult to navigate to a single route that avoids the zone. I'm thinking about picking up in town and returning at the airport and then taking a bus back into town. Very little additional cost, but some additional time and hassle. Anyone have experience renting a returning from Avis near the Santa Maria Novella station?
