Florence - Rent a Car to visit American Cemetery?

Plan to travel via train for most within Italy; however, when we get to Florence, we would like to visit the American Cemetery (slightly out of town) and think the best way to get there is to rent a car. Any recommendations?

Yes, look up American Battle Monument Commission website. You can navigate through the section that gives name of the cemetery. I just looked at it for you and appears you can get there by bus or train as it appears to be only about 7 miles from Florence. Certainly would be easier and cheaper than a car.

If you have not been to one, they are very impressive at least the ones we have seen in Europe. Wish I could say enjoy as it is sobering experience, Just spent some more time on the Monument site looking up a cemetery in France and did you know you can get a 2 minute virtual tour of the cemetery outside Florence? Worth looking at it.

Thanks...yes, saw the virtual tour. Have a great-uncle buried there...thought he was at Normandy, but when we went to visit (many years ago), they advised us he was buried in Florence. This will be our first opportunity to visit Florence since, so would like to stop. As you say...impressive and sobering.

I had occasion to participate in a Memorial Day ceremony there back in 2004, it was quite moving. The cemetery itself is pretty big, well taken care of and definitely worth seeing. It is a bit out of the way though, I'd guess you need a car.

We went there by car two years ago. It was a very moving experience to see our flag flying and all the graves of the men who fought for us and never returned home. I'll never forget it. We used a GPS to get there. Didn't see any train or bus station around. I'm sure you'll need a car.
