Florence Public Transit "Tap & Go"

A word to my fellow travelers going to Florence, the busses and trams have convenient "Tap & Go" stations on all of them.
Two things to know, the ticket at those stations are twice the price of buying a paper (90 minutes) ticket either from a tobacco shop or machine on the tram stop.
Second, the payment is only for ONE TICKET even if you Tap twice. A 40 Euro fine per person for non-ticketed travel. (Yes, I got fined)
Best of Luck!

The tap and go ticket is eur 1,70, exactly like the paper ticket. But I have an Italian credit card, maybe there are commissions on foreign credit cards. The only cheaper ticket is the carnet ticket (10 tickets for eur 15,50).

When you tap, your credit card number is memorized for 90 minutes as a valid ticket. You cannot buy other tickets on the same card, so if you are two persons you have to tap two different cards. If you board a second bus, you should tap again, but if you are within 90 minutes from a previous tap, the second one is not charged.
