Florence parking garage

We have an airbnb for two nights in central Florence. The host suggested parking in Michelangelo Garage that is a three minute walk to the rental. Every blog says don’t drive in Florence. The garage says they take care of the ZLT’s pass. I’m still nervous about fines and traffic. Has anyone used this garage? Is it easy to get into and out of? Would it be better to park somewhere else and walk or take a tram? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We will becoming from Siena. I haven’t decided if we want to tour San Gimignano or drive through other small towns (Fonterutoli, Greve in Chianti). Suggestions on that would also be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Getting there is a bit complicated now due to road closures for the light rail construction on via La Pira. Call and ask them the best route at the time you go. They can put your car license plate number on the City White list (within 24 hours from arrival) to prevent the issuance of fines (you will go through ZTL camera to get there. There are public parking garages that are cheaper and easier to reach, but farther from your AirBnB and probably Michelangelo offers a much higher level of security for your car.

I’m pretty fearless when driving in Italy but I would not risk driving the narrow streets of Firenze’s Centro Storico to find a parking garage. There have been some complaints about customers still getting fines for entering a ZTL and how expensive this garage is. There are some garages near the RR station or on Borgo Ognissanti that might be less expensive and are not in the ZTL.

You can search for ZTLs using this link. Be careful because some smaller towns have them!

Happy motoring!

What kind of car will you have? The garage is located on a small street. And while I haven't used it myself, there is a big difference between trying to park a Fiat 500 there and trying to park a Tesla Cybertruck.
