Where is the best parking in Florence if we plan to just do a day trip there from Montulccino?

This is easy. Take the bus from Montalcino to Florence. You'll change buses in Siena. You may not want to hear this suggestion but bottom line is that there precious little parking in Florence. You will waste a lot of time looking for parking. And when you find it, you won't be near places you want to see.
If you must drive in Florence watch for the following sign - "zona traffico limitato". This sign means that you are driving in a restricted zone. And, there quite a few of them. Computerized cameras pick up your license plate and up to a year later you get a nasty ticket with late fees.

We found an underground parking about a mile from the city center. It was difficult to find and we were extra careful not to head into the center and get ticketed (electronically, you won't know until later). I would plan to get into Florence using public transport. If you drive park at a train or bus station and ride in from there.
