We are arriving from Milan/Bolonga on Saturday evening-the night before Easter. We have reservations for Duomo for Monday. It looks like the Uffizi and Academia will be on Tuesday. We head to Rome on Wednesday. Thoughts on what to do on Easter Sunday? Fiesole, will anything be open? Will be able to attend mass?
Thanks!
Scoppio del Carro at noon on Easter Sunday
Plenty of opportunities for mass. We dropped in on mass at the Basilico di Santo Spirito one Easter then went to the Pitti Palace, which was surprisingly uncrowded. Make certain to have a reservation for Easter lunch as it’s a big deal.
Easter Sunday most museums will be closed. Fiesole is nice for a morning walk, but don’t expect shops or cafes open. You can attend mass at the Duomo get there early, it will be busy. Otherwise, just enjoy the city and a relaxed Easter lunch
H, shea_lewis, I was in Florence on Easter Sunday about 25 years ago and had a wonderful time that day.
You definitely have to attend the Scoppio del Carro. It is like nothing else you will see. It will be crowded, so keep that in mind, but it's fun to attend. When I was there, our landlady told us that the best place to watch it was the square right between the Duomo and the Baptistery.
Other places that will be open are the Uffizi, the Academia, Boboli Gardens, and many more, but make sure, if there's time tickets, that you get them ahead of time. There will also be plenty of shops open, not all, but quite a few. Restaurants as well will be open. You might find it hard to find an open supermarket, though.
Easter Sunday most museums will be closed.
That is incorrect. On Easter Sunday most major museums will be open in Florence.
