Christmas Day? Will spend part of the day
site seeing there before boarding a train
to head toward Paris?

Italy will be closed on Christmas Day and the day after, traditionally family days. Shorter hours leading up to it. Ask your hotel for advice for restaurants and/or sights. The hotels may have some restrictions too, such as no breakfast.
