Rick's book refers to workshops in the Oltrano area with "open doors" for observing.
Any suggestions as to where? East or West once having crossed Ponte Vecchio?
Nearer to Brancacci Chapel. Any experience/advice would be appreciated.

I just spent a week in the Oltrarno and honestly didn't see many of these workshops...
But everything is west of the Ponte Vecchio.
If you are interested in art, the church of Santa Felicita (right next to the Ponte Vecchio) has a glorious Deposition by the Mannerist painter Pontormo (pay 1 euro to illuminate!) I highly recommend watching the short video on this painting on smart history youtube :)
