Florence Museums

As Rick suggests, I am trying to get advance reservations for the Uffizi and Accademia in Florence. I have gone to the www.b-tickets website. For the Accademia they are only taking reservations about 2 weeks out. For Uffizi they are only taking reservations for Sept. I am traveling in early Oct. Does this seem right? I would really like to get my tickets. Week to week the website seems to change on how far out they take reservations. Several weeks ago when I checked both were reserving about 4-5 weeks in advance.

Are you staying in Florence or nearby? Many hotels will call and reserve tickets for you. Most do it for free, although you must still pay the museum's reservation fee.

It may just be because of the particular dates that you are trying to book. Try another website that offers these same tickets. I found that it all depended on what company I was dealing with as to how far out they could be booked and what times were offered.

Yes, have your hotel/bed and breakfast reserve for you. Give them some choices of times you want to go on a particular day and they will send you a confirmation number. Take that confirmation number with you when you go (be sure to arrive about 30 minutes early to Accademia and 15 minutes early for Uffizi, just in case) and present it to the museum. You will pay the reservation fee to them (just a couple euro on top of the entrance fee).
We used this method for all the places we went to that required advanced reservations and paid NOTHING extra for a second party to reserve for us.

If your hotel can't help, try phoning b-tickets. I had no trouble booking by phone last Sept for early Oct. for both museums, 1 phone call. You do have to phone during their working hours. There are many more time slots available than ever appear on the website.

B-tickets is up and running for October reservations. They have a lot of openings so you should be able to book something. I just booked reservations for both museums using B-tickets.

The number of tickets available for online reservations is smaller than the number actually being sold. There are more tickets available if you phone Uffizi/Accademia directly and you may be able to get a more favourable time slot as to what is left online. And you can make reservations for both museums at the same time. We didn't stay at a hotel in Florence so I just called myself and talked to an English speaking operator and the whole process took no more than 2-3 minutes. Just be aware of the time difference as you need to call during Italian business hours:

Question: When you register at B-tickets, do you have to register as a new user online? I tried, but there was no "USA" when it asked for my country, at registration.

I would prefer to not have to register.

I'm confused.

We are visiting both museums, and the hotel where we are staying made the reservations for us. I would check with your hotel because they can often help. Sometimes the websites are not up to date. It will cost an extra 4 Euros per person to make reservations. However, I would definitely recommend reservations because the lines can be very long.

Best of luck!

Hi,
I am having the same problems. I tried an alternate site in Ricks' Steves book and it seemed easier to use. The weekendafirenze.com site. I haven't booked my tickets for early october though.

Our Hotel booked our ticket without any problems, sorry I cant remember the name of the hotel. It was in Ricks 2008 book, Will post its name soon.

But its well worth your time getting tickets in advance.

We purchased a Friends of the Uffizi Membership for 100 Euros before our departure. It allowed us entry into about 10 museums in Florence without advance reservation or standing in any lines whatsoever. We consider this one of the very best parts of our 16 trip. Info can be found at http://www.florenceforfun.org/index.php?lng=1&id=31 . The 100 Euros is for up to a family of 4. We used it for the Uffizi, Academia, Pitti palace and Boboli gardens, Barghello, and Medici Chapels. I sent them a check before we left and they mailed us the cards. Just need the card and ID to enter the museums listed. Hope that helps.
