I've been reading that reservations are recommended for visiting the Uffizi and the Accademia (David). We're going in October. Does anyone know if they are necessary at that time of the year?
We just got back and we paid the few euros for online reservations. There are two lines. One for those with reservation and one without. The line with reservation had only 5 waiting ahead of us. The other line was long. It was worth the few euros to get reservations, you know when to be there and they won't be closed. I don't know about October. I was surprised by the crowds in May but October you won't be dealing with teenagers or college students. If I ever go again it will be October.
Have your hotel make reservations for you. There is a small extra charge that you pay when you arrive. You get a reservation number.
Are the reservations necessary in October?
I noticed that the earliest reservation times for both the Uffizi and the Accademia are at 12 noon. We might like to go to one of them earlier in the morning.
I'm wondering if it's quiet enough by the beginning of October not to need a reservation.
Does anyone know if there are still long lines to get in during the first week of October?
You can reserve an earlier time if you call.
When we go to Florence it is always in October for our joint birthdays. There is no OFF SEASON in Florence. I always buy my tickets online for both the Uffizi and the Accademia. The one time we didn't (and it was in October) we got to the Uffizi two hours ahead of opening time (read o dark thirty) and were glad we did as the line by opening time was around the corner. You can buy on line tickets for early morning. Yes this does restrict you to a specific time and day but I hate wasting my time waiting in line.
