Trying to figure what types of clothing I should bring for this time of year in Florence and Lucca? I am thinking of layers, with a long sleeve fleece and rain coat. Any body have any suggestions? Thanks so much...
We will be there at the same time and that is what we are planning on bringing.
and socks of course! :)
"Any body have any suggestions?" To pick appropriate clothing, it will probably help if you have a realistic expectation of the typical weather there that time of year. You can get the last 10 years of actual weather in Florence, for your specific dates at this site.
Carolyn, we were there a couple of years ago in March. Layers are definitely the way to go. Cashmere sweater, "cuddleduds", long sleeved T,s etc. Raincoat is most important. Every day was not a total wash out but it must have rained at least once a day. We packed light and only took our carry on bags. I envy you. What I wouldn't give to spend 7 days in Florence again!! Have fun!
I vote no on the down coat...takes up too much room and you can stay just as warm with layers that will be more appropriate, and more stylish!
Definitely layering along with a pair of really light weight gloves and a hat. I was there a few years ago at the same time and it went from nice & sunny to windy and cold. Also, I always travel with a pashmina... it can be a scarf, a shawl, a blanket on the plane, or you can just stuff it in your daypack if it gets too warm. I also bring leggings. Just plan for the coldest weather possible and have a great time!
Thank you for all the responses, I am getting good ideas from all your posts, thank you so much. I guess the only other question is whether to bring my down jacket with a stuff sack, or layer up, up up, with a nice long sleeve fleece and always with my pashima, socks, gloves, hat, raincoat. I hate to bring the down jacket, anyone else ever brought theirs? were they happy they did? again, thanks so much...
no down!
Went to Italy in March last year and went to Florence for the day. The weather was amazing. Sunny and in the mid 60's. So it really depends, we had wonderful weather in Italy and we were there for about a week. No a single drop of rain while we were there. So look at the weather charts for Florence a couple of days before you go.
Thanks!
