My husband and I will stay in Florence for several nights before setting out for other locations. When we return to Florence three days before flying home, should we book a room in a specific area to ease our 9:00 am flight details? Thanks for your help!!

If you leave your room before the rush hour, the taxi ride will be 20 minutes or less from most city address. You can help staying on the closer side of the center (say, around the railway station or Porta a Prato), but there is no need to stay very close.
When I have to leave very early from the Florence airport I usually book a taxi the evening before for a fixed hour in the morning (ask the hotel concierge or phone 055-4390 or 055-4798 or 055-4242); I am sure to get a taxi and no time is lost. Taxis have a fixed fee between the airport and the city centre.
