For Santa Croce, were you hoping to go in? I believe it closes at 5:30 with last entry at 5. At least that is what I have in my notes for the itinerary I am planning for my trip this fall.

Edit: I think I read this wrong. You are saying the time between lunch and 530? Then you should be good. I originally read it as arriving at 530.

We are going in September and I can’t imagine not seeing David! But I know you said you prefer churches to statues …

If there is any one statue to see, David is it! I have a BFA and it absolutely stunned me. After studying it and seeing pictures of it for years, I just couldn’t believe how it could really be as amazing as it is.

I don't see Sta. Maria del Fiore (Duomo) on your list. Or the Baptistry? You will need tickets if you want to visit. There were long lines, in April, but we'd seen it before, so it was ok with us.

BTW...just a heads up, around SMN train station, be aware of people asking you to sign petitions.....

On the other hand, I had the best focaccia sandwich ever, at an outdoor restaurant, right in front of the station.

Thank you everyone for the great new ideas to add to the list.

The Duomo, is on the list. We thought we would start with the church. If we wanted or had time, we could decide to visit the museum.
The Baptistry is a new idea for us, and we would find interesting
The Capella also something we would find of interest.

I also learned about the Market Sant'Ambrogio. We will make sure to visit here. Love these types of areas.
@James - we are going to Santa Croce. I too have it closing at 5:30. Our visit will be focused on lunch to 5:30. With learning about the Market Sant'Ambrogio, it will be easy to go to both.

We wanted to see all of the Last Suppers, but traded some of those out for the opportunity to cook pizza & gelato at the Tuscan Farmhouse.

And for other items not on our list or things we may not get to see this time, our mindset is, this is not the only time we will be visiting Italy.
